Upset the Rhythm
Upset The Rhythm is an independent record label based in London with a varied roster of leftfield artists and bands; they also operate as a diverse DIY live music promoter. Huw Stephens featured Upset The Rhythm as "purveyors of interesting indie" on his BBC Radio 1 show (24 November 2011) as part of his ongoing 'Label Of Love' feature. As of 2015, Upset The Rhythm had 85 releases. History Upset The Rhythm initially formed in 2003 while its members were organising a concert for Deerhoof. By 2015, Upset The Rhythm had organised about 700 shows. Upset The Rhythm shows occur each week in venues across London from smaller DIY hubs like Power Lunches to more established venues like The Roundhouse. David Shrigley
David John Shrigley (born 17 September 1968) is a British visual artist. He lived and worked in Glasgow, Scotland for 27 years before moving to Brighton, England in 2015. Early life and education Shrigley was born 17 September 1968 in Macclesfield, Cheshire. He moved with his parents and sister to Oadby, Leicestershire when he was two years old. He took the Art and Design Foundation course at Leicester Polytechnic in 1987, and then studied environmental art at Glasgow School of Art from 1988 to 1991. Talking about his final degree show, Shrigley later told ''The Guardians Becky Barnicoat, "I thought my degree show was brilliant, but the people who were marking it didn't. I got a 2:2. They didn't appreciate my genius. €¦I didn't sell anything at the show – it was 1991, before the YBAs. There wasn't a precedent for people selling work that wasn't figurative painting". Primo!
Primo! are an Australian indie rock band from Melbourne, which formed in the early 2010s. By 2018 the line-up was Violetta DelConte Race, Xanthe Waite, Suzanne Walker and Amy Hill. History The band was formed by Violetta DelConte Race (of Terry) and Xanthe Waite (of Shifter) as a two-piece in the early 2010s. Delconte Race, on lead guitar and vocals is from Melbourne's eastern suburbs. Waite, on bass guitar and vocals, relocated from Sydney and the pair started jamming in 2010. They were joined in Primo!, on drums and vocals, by Suzanne Walker. Following a cassette only extended play, ''Primo Cassetto'' in April 2016, and a split single with LA Mood in 2017, the band's debut album ''Amici'' was released by English record label Upset the Rhythm in 2018. ''Drowned in Sound'', sometimes abbreviated to ''DiS'', is a UK-based music webzine financed by artist management company Silentway. Founded by editor Sean Adams, the site features reviews, news, interviews, and discussion forums. History ''DiS'' began as an email fanzine in 1998 called ''The Last Resort'' but was relaunched by founder and editor Sean Adams as ''Drowned in Sound'' in 2000. The freelance writing team is currently spread across four continents – North America, Asia, Europe and Australasia. Lucky Dragons
Lucky Dragons is an experimental music group consisting of Luke Fischbeck and Sarah Rara. Based in Los Angeles, California, the band are noted for their unusual sound, described as having the ability to make "'everyday sounds' become alluringly other". Lucky Dragons' performances include live music, video projection, and sounds created in collaboration with the audience. They have performed at the Smell, Echo Curio, Dublab, KCHUNG at major international art institutions and at the 2008 Whitney Biennial. Feature was a London-based indie rock trio formed in 2012 by Jen Calleja (drums and vocals, also of Sauna Youth) and Liv Willars (guitar and vocals), with Heather Perkins (bass and vocals) joining in 2014. The band released two EPs, a split single with Perkins' other band Slowcoaches, and an LP, before breaking up in 2017. History Feature was formed in London by drummer/vocalist Jen Calleja (also of the band Sauna Youth) and guitarist/vocalist Liv Willars in 2012. Deerhoof
Deerhoof are an American musical group formed in San Francisco in 1994. They currently consist of founding drummer Greg Saunier, bassist and singer Satomi Matsuzaki, and guitarists John Dieterich and Ed Rodriguez. Beginning as an improvised noise punk band, Deerhoof became widely renowned and influential in the 2000s through self-produced albums. They have released eighteen studio albums since 1997. History and profile The magazine was founded in January 2005 by Stuart Stubbs as a home-printed fanzine in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It relocated to London in 2006.
